The painting is by local artist Rob Black who painted it as a gift to mark the opening of A & A Doyle Limited, Funeral Director’s in Bank Street. The original painting hangs in their office. The firm has produced a limited edition print run of 400 prints which are to be sold to support the development of Galashiels Town Band and are mounted and ready to frame, are on sale to the general public from A & A Doyle Ltd, Funeral Directors at 10 Bank Street in Gala.
The Town Band is investing large amounts of time and money in developing a new generation of young players. Over 40 children now receive tuition each week under the baton of Musical Director, Stuart Black. The funds generated by the sale of these prints will greatly assist the band in supporting this work.
Allan Doyle said, ‘Awdri and I were absolutely delighted with the painting that Rob Black gave to us to mark the opening of our new funeral home. I have been involved with Gala Town Band for most of my life and Rob has been and active supporter of the band for many years. It seems only right that such a good painting of an iconic Gala landmark should be used to help one of the Town’s oldest institutions, it’s Town Band.’
